Lets get nerdy here for a minute.
My best friend said that he was talking to a girl on an online datingsite all last week that he was really into. He would talk to her for hours each night and was starting to really get into this girl, but she did something that turned him off so bad that he simply walked away from the situation. She mentioned the last Star Trek convention she went to.
I don’t know what it is about people, but you either love Trekkies, or, in Jeff’s case, you REALLY don’t. Personally, I couldn’t care less about Star Trek, but I have a lot of respect for the Trekkies!
It takes a lot of dedication to do the things they do. Not only do some of these people travel thousands of miles to go to the conventions, but there’s thousands of people in the world that can speak Clingon, a fictional language made up specifically for the show Star Trek. I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it is for someone to learn a language that’s not the mother tongue of a single country!
I’m not blogging today to talk about Trekkies specifically. I’m doing it to talk about cutting someone off just because they have a certain affection for something. Just because someone likes a show like Star Trek, should you be able to judge them on it?
I know people have boundaries in who they date. No one with more than three cats, no one with less than six toes, that kind of thing. But cutting someone off that could be potential dating online personals gold just because they like a little Vulcan in their shows?! I don’t see the point.
You shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, and you shouldn’t judge dates by the shows they watch. You never know what you could miss out on.
